Chrysalis Records announce the release of a deluxe remastered three CD box set, poster booklet and special DVD –Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine (Carter USM ) –30 Something Box Set on 10th March 2023.

The highly sought-after DVD, “In Bed With Carter”, is made available for the first time since its 1991 VHS release. Featuring footage from the Brixton Academy, this has been top of the fans list for release for years. It includes a commentary from Jim Bob and Fruitbat which talks about the gig, also it has a lot of chat about cats.

Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine (Carter USM) an indie punk rock pop band, synonymous with the early ’90s had a run of twelve top forty singles and four top ten albums (including a number one), plus a phenomenal range of t-shirts (that still sell in their thousands today). Carter sold out hundreds of venues time after time, playing to a fiercely loyal fanbase. They headlined the Glastonbury Pyramid Stage in 1992. Their body of work with its insightful lyrical commentary, still resonates with audiences today.

South London residents Jim Bob and Fruitbat set on changing the world through their bitter and world-weary (but brilliantly-worded) diatribes on life in gloomy Tory-ruined Britain. And eventually, their mission for world domination really did pay off as people started to take notice.

30 Something was Carter’s second album, originally released in February 1991, it charted at number 8 in the UK, spawning the singles “Anytime Anyplace Anywhere” and “Bloodsport For All”. The album went gold and is regarded by many as Carter’s best album.

This boxset release also offers a remastered recording from a late 1991 Kilburn, London, gig – “BBC Live in Concert”, all beautifully presented in a clamshell box with a poster booklet.

With nods to The Clash and Bowie, the album contained the band’s trademark lyrical puns and snarling punk vocals juxtaposing with harmonizing guitars.

The album received 10/10 from NME upon release and ranked as number 8 on their albums of the year list for 1991.

Jim Bob commented, ” When you look at this album there is no filler. When Carter reformed, or if I play a gig with Carter songs, you can pretty much do the whole album. Or more to the point you can’t really miss much off it. It’s like a greatest- hits. It was also our first top 10 album. We played at Huddersfield Poly the night it went into the charts. We stayed in the bar after the gig to celebrate. The person who ran the student union had a birthday, so they decided to have an Abba night and give all the drink away for free. In the morning the students and staff came in and we were on the floor asleep. It was such an exciting thing being in the charts then. More exciting than being at number one later on.”

Fruitbat follows up with: “The album is a bit of magic. I remember taking it back home to my girlfriend, my brother and his wife. It was the first time any of them took us properly seriously. They listened to it, and it was ‘Oh wow, this is brilliant’. That’s when I knew we had cracked it.

The standout song for me is ‘Falling On A Bruise’. It’s so overblown and …dramatic. It was really great the album got such amazing reviews. We needed that validation at this point of our career.”
