War Waves – ‘Sleep’ , the new single

War Waves – ‘Sleep’ , the new single, released 29.06.18

For fans of: Frightened Rabbit, Idlewild and The Gaslight Anthem

“90’s angst may have disappeared from the musical mainstream for a while, but it never left the fragile hearts and nervous minds of many of us. We don’t need a distraction – we need music that listens to us and shares our feeling of disenchantment.

War Waves seemed to come out of nowhere in 2015. Their self-titled record created a modest local buzz but also reached isolated listeners all over the world who were looking for a record just like it.

War Waves dropped the follow-up single ‘Horses’ in July of 2016 and it was a statement of intent. The full-length “All That We Lack” arrived shortly afterwards and confirmed that this was a band who had lofty goals for their sound and were absolutely capable of reaching them.

Which brings us to now.

‘Sleep’ – the first single lifted from War Wave’s upcoming EP ‘Be Well’ – shows even more maturity from a band that already seemed to bypass a few grades in school.

With ‘All That We Lack’, War Waves found their sound. On ‘Sleep’, the band refines it, upping the ante with more dynamism from the instrumentation and songwriter Marc Newby’s soul-baring lyrics and vocal delivery.

Image result for War Waves

This is the type of record you buy, listen to repeatedly and scream it back to the band when seeing it live”.

’London Is Burning’ – an alternative/early version of ‘Burnin’ Street’ from Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros final album ‘Streetcore’ – is available now –
All the formats include tracks that have never appeared anywhere before as well as new remasters. Exclusive to all formats is an album of unreleased material including an early demo of ‘This Is England’ entitled ‘Czechoslovak Song/Where Is England,’ a solo demo of ‘Letsagetabitarockin’ recorded in Elgin Avenue in 1975, outtakes from ‘Sid & Nancy’ featuring Mick Jones and unreleased songs ‘Rose Of Erin’, the biographical and mythical recording ‘The Cool Impossible’ and ‘London Is Burning’ one of the last songs Joe recorded.
Punk pioneer, singer, songwriter, recording artist, activist, musical and political inspiration for a generation and mighty diamond Joe Strummer was the most charismatic and passionate front man to emerge from the punk explosion of the late seventies. After Joe’s untimely death in December 2002 it was discovered that he had been quite an archivist of his own work, having barns full of writings and tapes stored in his back garden. There are now over 20,000 items in the Joe Strummer Archive. The archiving of this material and compiling of ‘Joe Strummer 001’ was overseen by Joe’s widow Lucinda Tait and compilation producer Robert Gordon McHarg III.
All tracks were restored and mastered by Grammy Award winner Peter J. Moore at the E. Room in Toronto Canada. On going through cassettes and recording tapes it was discovered that Joe was rather frugal and keen on hiding tracks. On cassettes he would leave 20 minutes between songs. On the 1” 8 track recordings it was discovered there were hidden tracks superimposed onto each other. For example tracks 1-4 were taken by one song and tracks 5-8 by two other songs which were thought when played back to be caused by tape denigration until the tapes went to Peter J Moore who was able to separate one song from another.
The box set has the same content as the CD set and is pressed on audiophile quality 180g vinyl. The box set’s accompanying hard backed book also included in the Deluxe CD features rarely seen and previously unpublished memorabilia from Joe’s personal collection as well as historical press reviews and technical notes about the albums. The slipcase cover of all formats is taken from Joe’s 1990 Californian driving license.
Art directed and designed by Robert Gordon McHarg III who previously worked on the Clash ‘Sound System’ box set with Paul Simonon, the John Cooper Clarke compilation ‘Anthologia’ and curated the Black Market Clash Exhibition.
Gordon says, “The idea behind the 64 page A4 notebook is that it’s done as if Joe had designed it himself, telling his story, an insight into his workings including hand written lyrics with personal notes and scribbles.”

Gaffa Tape Sandy – Meat Head

Rising garage rockers Gaffa Tape Sandy launch their punishing new single Meat Head, building on their brand of high-octane, adrenaline-fuelled rock ‘n’ roll delivered with a vital message.

Meat Head was written as an attack on the type of mind-sets people harbour which involve believing that they somehow own or have the right to the body of another person”, the band stated. “The song is intended to be a pointed finger, an accusation and a vexed comment aimed towards reckless attitudes that exacerbate rape culture. It’s a topic we feel strongly about, and so wanted to perform with passion and indignation”.

With drummer Robin Francis’ viciously executed pre-choruses and bassist Catherine Lindley-Neilson’s fierce vocal delivery, the subject of the song can be widely felt within the performance just as much as the lyrics, adding to the wave of momentum surrounding the trio heading into the summer months.

One of NME’s 100 Essential Acts for 2018, the Bury St. Edmunds outfit have already toured across the UK with Indoor Pets this year and will be hopping all over the festival circuit with imminent slots at Latitude (BBC Introducing) and Y Not following raucous displays at The Great Escape and Live At Leeds.

Produced by George Perks (SuperGlu), Gaffa Tape Sandy’s Meat Head is released 29th June via Antigen Records and will be available on all digital platforms.

IDLES announce second LP “Joy As An Act Of Resistance”, World Tour & video for “Danny Nedelko”

IDLES CONFIRM NEW LP – ‘JOY AS AN ACT OF RESISTANCE.’ – OUT AUGUST 31 ON PARTISAN RECORDS

FIRST EVER WORLD TOUR THIS AUTUMN

PRO-IMMIGRATION ANTHEM AND FIRST SINGLE PROPER “DANNY NEDELKO” OUT NOW

temp2

Bristol 5-piece IDLES (“the UK’s best punk band” – The Guardian) have confirmed details for their anticipated second LP – ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance.’ will be out August 31st via Partisan Records. IDLES have also shared the album’s first single, a pro-immigration anthem entitled “Danny Nedelko,” which takes its name from one of the band’s close friends (and Ukrainian immigrant). The song is accompanied by a self-directed video that features Danny himself, listen/watch HERE.

Produced by Space and mixed by Adam Greenspan & Nick Launay (Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kate Bush), ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance.’ takes aim at everything from toxic masculinity, nationalism, immigration, and class inequality – all while maintaining a visceral, infectious positivity. Singer Joe Talbot summarises: “This album is an attempt to be vulnerable to our audience and to encourage vulnerability; a brave naked smile in this shitty new world. We have stripped back the songs and lyrics to our bare flesh to allow each other to breathe, to celebrate our differences, and act as an ode to communities and the individuals that forge them. Because without our community, we’d be nothing.”

Read Joe’s full statement on the album’s inspiration and origins here.

Last week IDLES unleashed blistering 2-part album opener, “Colossus,” along with a music video that features cameos from Stone Cold Steve Austin, Fred Astaire, Evel Knievel, Jesus Christ + more. Listen/watch HERE.

This fall, IDLES will embark on their first ever global tour, including their biggest London headliner yet at O2 Forum Kentish Town on 18th October. Their last London headliner, at Heaven, sold out nearly six months in front. Full dates below, general on sale begins Friday June 8th at 10am local time. More info here.

IDLES self-released their debut album – ‘Brutalism‘ – last year. That record carried the band to #1 on Spotify’s Viral Chart, they opened for Foo Fighters at the O2, and landed on Loud & Quiet, DIY, CRACK, NME, Dork and Radio 6’s albums of the year lists among others. They’ve performed to fervent audiences at Primavera, Latitude, Reading and Leeds festivals, and were one of the biggest success stories to come out of SXSW this March (“May be the best punk show of its kind I’ve ever witnessed…felt like experiencing something people will be talking about for years to come.” – Austin American Statesmen).
