Debut release from Electro-Grunge Step duo Star Pixel, including long term R*E*P*E*A*T ally Gavin Chapell-Bates
‘The Circle’ is the debut single from Star Pixel, an Electro-GrungeStep duo from Cambridgeshire, England.
Written as a direct response to the divisive times we live in, the track focuses on our shared humanity, what unites us rather than separates us.
The song starts with Siamese Dream era Pumpkins’ esque guitars, before exploding into heavy EDM beats. Of the track, Star Pixel say: “We wanted to write something positive, uplifting and hopeful, which talked about our shared humanity, and would be something that could bring us together. Because underneath we are all the same, regardless of whether we are children, teachers, musicians or Presidents.”
‘The Circle’ will be available for free from Friday 18th June to the first 200 people that download the track from their Bandcamp page, before it goes on general release on Friday 25th June.
‘Star Pixel’ formed in early 2020. They will be releasing their debut album in autumn 2021. Together, the duo have taken their mutual love for 90’s grunge and brought it up to date with a fresh modern sound and big dance beats.
The duo comprises, Charlie Howell, otherwise known as the producer of electronic music psyclonic, and singer-songwriter Gavin Chappell-Bates, who reached number 48 in the UK downloads chart and whose music has appeared on BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 2.
Charlie devised the concept of Star Pixel, with a clear vision for a musical project which would blend various genres, most specifically grunge and EDM. Working remotely from one another at a time when they were unable to meet up or perform, they feverishly wrote, recorded and demoed separately, bouncing ideas of one another, in a perfect collaboration and fusion of ideas and styles. The songs cover a wide range of themes including mental health, obsession, escape, the environment and the rise of technology.
